Parametric Design: The Beauty of Stairs
FWP 2, BD
Prof. Fabian Scheurer
Thursdays, 05:30 pm
room 207

This beginner-friendly course introduces you to the exciting world of parametric design with Rhino and Grasshopper, using staircases as our main design topic. Stairs are not only functional but also iconic architectural elements—perfect for exploring how rules and geometry can generate infinite variations.
Step by step, you’ll learn how to build flexible, adaptable digital models that respond to changing inputs and design intentions. Along the way, guest speakers will share their insights on parametric thinking and the art of stair-making, inspiring you with real-world applications.
Beyond software skills, we will dive into the entire “digital chain” that connects design to fabrication: from creating your parametric concepts on screen, to preparing them for digital production, and finally materializing them with laser cutters and 3D printers.
By the end of the course, you will not only understand the basics of parametric design but also hold in your hands physical models of your own staircase creations.
