In the face of increasing climate challenges, there's a pressing need to prepare our built environment for new climate parameters. For thousands of years, nature and vernacular architecture have evolved and adapted to diverse climate conditions, offering a vast library of climate adaptation solutions. Harnessing these solutions via biomimicry (mimicking nature's processes) alone can be challenging due to the gap between biology and architecture. Vernomimicry is used to bridge this gap. By fusing the adaptation strategies found in both nature and vernacular structures, Vernomimicry offers a method for developing resilient, nature-driven, and climate-responsive designs. This course explores the design principles of nature and vernacular architecture, examining their relevance, strengths, and limitations in modern architectural practice. Through case studies, participants will develop design solutions that are not only sustainable but also responsive to the changing climate.
