This course is to provide students with a fundamental understanding of color and light, to understand how color behaves and to learn to use color as organizational principle. Through assignments and demonstrations, various color theories and applications will be studied. We will focus on the themes such as: How does color interact with other color? How does color challenge our perception? What effects does color bring to our way of seeing? How could one be analytical to the emotion that color evokes? What happens when we imagine color and light in black and white or vice versa? How does color transform form or space? Could color 'form' spaces? What is the potential of color and light in architecture?
Its objective is to develop careful seeing and analytical thinking in color that can be applied to all areas of the visual arts, design and architecture. The students are expected to complete appropriate assignments relating to the theories, and to develop their own studies in color and light.
