The growing lack of space in metropolitan cities leads to an expansion of the urban space into the rural areas. Therefore small villages, as we used to know, transform into new suburban structures. In this course we will analyze the existing structures of different villages close to Munich and identify the potentials as well as the risks of this transformation process.
The structural change of the known small villages can benefit to the communities, for instant in terms of mobility and infrastructure. At the same time, due to the development of spaces, existing buildings, green areas or social structures are at risk of being replaced or replanned. Therefore, the characteristic landscapes of the rural areas are threatened to disappear.
Together we will detect the obvious and the invisible structures of different places and determine the essential elements, which characterize the individual villages. We will examine the existing building stock, the open spaces, the social framework as well as the local infrastructure and integrate the results in location plans. Based on the analysis we will discuss strategies to preserve the essence of the villages while facing growth and urban development in the future.
